Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is an isometric party-based CRPG developed and published by Owlcat Games, released for Windows on September 2, 2021, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions following on September 29, 2022. It adapts the Pathfinder First Edition Adventure Path of the same name and casts the player as the Knight-Commander of the Fifth Mendevian Crusade, a survivor of the demonic assault on Kenabres who awakens with mythic power drawn from a rift in the Worldwound. The campaign runs from the ruined festival grounds of Kenabres through the liberation of Drezen and into the Abyss itself, mixing party combat, companion quests and a strategic crusade layer. Its defining feature is the mythic path system, which branches the story into ten very different ascendancies, from Angel and Aeon to Lich and Swarm That Walks, each with its own powers, quests and ending.

Key Systems

  • Mythic Paths, ten branching ascendancies - After the prologue the Knight-Commander gains mythic ranks and eventually commits to one of ten paths: Angel, Demon, Azata, Aeon, Trickster, Lich, Swarm That Walks, Legend, Gold Dragon and Devil. Each path brings its own mythic spellbook or abilities, rewrites dialogue and companion reactions, and unlocks a distinct finale.
  • Pathfinder First Edition ruleset - Attack rolls, armor class, saving throws, spell resistance, alignment restrictions, feats and skills follow the tabletop game, so builds come from class levels, feat chains and multiclass dips rather than free-form perks.
  • Twenty-six base classes plus archetypes - Every core and hybrid class ships with archetype variants that trade features for a different identity, alongside prestige classes, and companions arrive with fixed starting builds that can be respecced.
  • Real-time with pause or turn-based combat - Encounters run in real time with pause by default, and can be switched to a full turn-based mode that follows tabletop initiative, with the choice available per encounter.
  • Crusade management - A strategic layer between chapters where the Knight-Commander raises armies, takes forts and sets decrees and morale, with an optional auto-crusade mode for players who only want the party RPG.
  • Companion quests, alignment and romance - Ten recruitable companions plus later additions carry personal quests, alignment-driven approval and romance arcs, and choices can shift the Commander's own mythic alignment as well as the party's.
  • Corruption, resting and attrition - Resting restores spells and abilities but builds corruption inside the Worldwound, while crusade supplies and morale carry across chapters, so pacing rests and healing is part of the strategy rather than a formality.
  • Difficulty and rule tuning - A granular difficulty panel and a long list of toggles, from enemy stat inflation to party size and death's door, let the campaign run from story mode to unfair.
