Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition

Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is the tenth-anniversary release of Bethesda Game Studios' post-apocalyptic open-world action RPG, launched on November 10, 2025 for Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, ten years to the day after the original shipped on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The package bundles the complete Fallout 4 base game, all six official add-ons and a curated collection of Creation Club creations, and offers an upgrade path to players who already own the original. The game casts the player as the Sole Survivor, a pre-war parent who wakes from cryo-sleep in Vault 111 after a nuclear exchange incinerates Boston, and sets out across the Commonwealth to find the child taken from the vault. Its blend of first-person shooting, S.P.E.C.I.A.L. perk progression, V.A.T.S. targeting, settlement building, power armor and four mutually exclusive faction endings made it one of the best-selling role-playing games of its generation.

Key Systems

  • S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and Perks - Seven attributes (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck) each gate a tree of named perks. Every level grants one perk point and attribute points are spent at level-up instead of through a separate skill list, so a build is defined by the perks a player commits to rather than by a class choice.
  • V.A.T.S. - The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System pauses or slows combat and spends Action Points to queue shots at individual body parts with their own hit percentages. Crippling a limb has real consequences for both the player and enemies, which makes limb targeting a core tactical layer rather than a damage boost.
  • Settlement Building - Dozens of named sites across the Commonwealth can be cleared and turned into settlements, with scrap salvaged from the world feeding a construction system for walls, water, power, food, defenses and shops. Settlements produce resources, attract settlers and can be linked into supply lines.
  • Crafting and Modding - Weapons, armor, power armor, chems and food are all improved at workshop stations, and each weapon family has its own mod tree (receivers, barrels, stocks, magazines, sights, muzzles). Mods change damage type, ammo, rate of fire and accuracy, so the same weapon can be rebuilt for several roles.
  • Power Armor as Equipment Platform - Power armor is entered like a vehicle, runs on fusion cores as fuel, and is repaired and modded from a dedicated frame, giving heavy builds a mobile tank role that also protects against radiation and fall damage.
  • Companion Affinity - Around a dozen recruitable companions travel with the player, react to dialogue and actions, and unlock a unique perk at high affinity. Several companion quests are gated behind that relationship, and most companions can be romanced regardless of the player's gender.
  • Factions and Branching Endings - The Minutemen, Brotherhood of Steel, Railroad and Institute each offer a full questline, their own ideology and an exclusive endgame, and the player ultimately backs one of them, which locks out the others' final acts.
  • Survival Mode - An optional difficulty that adds hunger, thirst, illness, sleep and fatigue, disables fast travel and manual saving outside of beds, and makes ammo, medicine and carry weight genuinely scarce.
