Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is a role-playing game developed by HexaDrive and published by Square Enix, a from-the-ground-up remake of the 2000 classic Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. It was announced in September 2025 and released worldwide on February 5, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players follow a young fisherman's son from the island kingdom of Estard who, alongside childhood friends, discovers the Shrine of Mysteries and is swept back in time to restore continents sealed away by the malevolent Demon Lord Orgodemir. The remake reimagines the original with charming diorama-style environments built on Unreal Engine 4, a streamlined story for better pacing, the new two-class Moonlight system, and class-specific Vocational Perks.

Key Systems

  • Diorama world and streamlined story — Reimagined rebuilds the layered world as charming diorama-style environments and tightens the 100-plus-hour original into a more focused campaign; the classic stone-shard restoration of sealed continents and time travel between past and present remain central.
  • Two-class Moonlight system — The remake introduces the ability to set a second 'Moonlight' class alongside the primary vocation on a character, allowing two class trees to progress together for extra flexibility in building a party.
  • Vocational Perks — Each class now grants its own passive perks in addition to the spells and skills learned by mastering it, giving every vocation a distinct combat identity.
  • Deep class system — Dozens of Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced vocations (Warrior, Mage, Cleric, Bard, Jester, Pirate, and many more) are unlocked by mastering prerequisite classes; Reimagined replaces monster classes with a single advanced Monster Master class.
  • Mini-games and facilities — The Haven immigrant town, casino and Battle Arena, Monster Meadows, and the Excellence Grading Organization return (with the casino replaced by the turn-based Battle Arena in Reimagined), alongside the skystone, boat, and magic carpet forms of travel.
