Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast is an open-world action survival-horror game developed and self-published by Polish studio Techland. Originally conceived as story DLC for Dying Light 2 before being expanded into a standalone release, it follows the return of Kyle Crane, the hero of the original Dying Light, who emerges after years in captivity to find a wilderness he barely recognizes. Set in the remote forested region of Castor Woods, the game pairs the series' signature parkour traversal and brutal first-person melee combat with a day/night cycle in which the most dangerous infected hunt the darkness. Crane has been mutated during his long imprisonment and can unleash a savage Beast transformation for combat, while crafting, scavenging, and the survival of local survivors drive the story of revenge against the figure who held him.

Key Systems

  • Kyle Crane's Return: The original Dying Light protagonist returns after years of captivity, mutated by his ordeal and hardened into a survivor ruthless enough to confront the man who held him.
  • Beast Transformation: Crane can unleash a feral Beast state that dramatically boosts his melee power, speed, and aggression for a burst of overwhelming combat, at the heart of the game's identity.
  • Free-Running Parkour: The series' signature first-person parkour returns, letting Crane vault, slide, wall-run, and swing across the rooftops and treelines of the Castor Woods region.
  • Day / Night Cycle: Survival depends on planning around darkness; the night transforms the region as the deadliest infected emerge, forcing stealth, sound discipline, and light management.
  • Survival Crafting: Scavenged materials are combined into weapons, throwables, and field upgrades, letting players build a loadout tailored to their combat style.
  • Infected Hosts: The landscape is overrun by infected, from shambling biters to agile virals and the night-stalking volatiles, each encouraging a different approach.
  • Co-op Exploration: The open world can be explored with allies in cooperative play, sharing resources and covering each other against the infected hordes.
