Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is an action-adventure game written, produced, designed, and directed by Hideo Kojima and developed by Kojima Productions, published for console by Sony Interactive Entertainment with the PC port delivered by Nixxes Software. It is the direct sequel to the 2019 Death Stranding and the second game from Kojima Productions as an independent studio. Set roughly a decade after the first game, it follows retired porter Sam Porter Bridges who is pulled back into service when a mysterious signal from space reignites the global threat of voidouts and reopens the connection to the Beach, the world of the dead. The game expands on the original's delivery-driven traversal with an open frontier, companion characters who journey alongside Sam, APAS exoskeleton and Buddy Bot logistics tools, expanded vehicle and mech traversal including the giant GESTALT walker, and a deeper combat system, all set across a reconnected world scarred by timefall and the divided factions that rose after the UCA's reconnection.

Key Systems

  • Delivery and traversal with new frontier tools — At its core the game remains a delivery-driven open world: Sam hauls cargo across a vast reconnected frontier, balancing weight, timefall, and terrain. New tools from the original's kit are expanded, with overpasses, ziplines, and mobile delivery features joining the returning ladders, ropes, and chiral structures.
  • Companion system — Unlike the first game, Sam can travel with allied companions such as Tomorrow, Rainy, and Dollman who walk alongside him, share cargo, and participate in combat, giving the journey a more social, party-based feel.
  • APAS exoskeleton upgrades — A suite of deployable power-assisted suits (Battle and Boost skeletons) and the Bokka companion mech augment Sam's speed, combat, and carrying capacity, with Deluxe- and craft-granted color variants like the Silver and Gold skeletons.
  • Buddy Bot and logistics robotics — A small autonomous robot that trails Sam carrying extra cargo and supplies, easing the burden of long hauls and matter running low mid-expedition.
  • GESTALT mega-vehicle — Sam can board the giant, AI-equipped GESTALT walker, a legged exoskeleton mech that carries heavy loads and braves hazardous terrain the protagonist alone cannot cross.
  • Expanded combat — Lethal and non-lethal weaponry returns and broadens: handguns, rifles, and machine guns alongside the signature Bola Gun and tranquilizer rounds, plus explosive ordnance, giving players far more direct confrontation options against marauders, MULE-style factions, and corrupted Timefall creatures.
  • Reconnected world and faction politics — A decade after the UCA reconnected the Americas, the frontier is now dotted with isolationist settlements, rival groups, and corporations that the player decides how to interact with, shaping each region's allegiance.
