Divinity: Original Sin II - Definitive Edition

Divinity: Original Sin II is a turn-based fantasy CRPG from Larian Studios set in the world of Rivellon, where the player is a Godwoken whose Source magic makes them both the last hope of the Seven Gods and the target of the Divine Order. The campaign follows the hunt for the missing Divine, Lucian, across the prison island of Reaper's Eye, the Reaper's Coast, the Nameless Isle and the city of Arx, with the Voidwoken, the Magisters and the returning Eternals all closing in. Players build a party of up to four Godwoken from six fully voiced Origins or a custom character, then fight through a turn-based combat system built on Action Points, Physical and Magic Armour, elemental surfaces and Source Points. The Definitive Edition is the enhanced release of the 2017 original, delivered as a free upgrade for owners, which rewrites and expands the final act, adds new quests, dialogue and epilogue content, retunes balance, and ships with the Game Master Mode toolkit for running custom campaigns.

Key Systems

  • Turn-Based Combat with Action Points: Every encounter runs on initiative order and Action Points, which are spent on movement and skills, so positioning, crowd control and skill-point economy decide fights far more than raw damage numbers.
  • Physical and Magic Armour: Each target carries separate Physical and Magic Armour pools, and damage must strip the matching pool before any status effect of that type can land, which is what turns every party into a physical, magical or hybrid damage composition.
  • Elemental Surfaces and Status Effects: Fire, water, oil, poison and cursed or blessed surfaces spread across the arena and react with each other into steam clouds, electrified water and explosions, inflicting burning, chilled, wet, shocked, poisoned and frozen states.
  • Source Points and Source Skills: The strongest skills cost Source Points, earned from Source puddles, Spirit Vision on corpses, quest rewards and items, capped at three and unlocking a tier of apocalyptic abilities that define late-game builds.
  • Origins, Tags and Approval: Playing one of the six Origins or a custom character grants dialogue tags that unlock whole new conversation branches and quest solutions, while companion approval, personal quest chains and romance track how the party reacts to those choices.
  • Combat and Civil Abilities: Power comes from combat abilities such as Warfare, Huntsman, Scoundrel, Necromancer, Polymorph and the four elemental schools, while civil abilities such as Thievery, Persuasion, Lucky Charm, Loremaster, Sneaking and Telekinesis open the interactive world of locks, secrets and merchants.
  • Two Weapon Sets and Gear Slots: Every character equips two weapon sets that can be swapped mid-fight, alongside helmet, chest, gloves, belt, boots, amulet and two ring slots, with rune sockets that stack further elemental and attribute bonuses onto equipment.
  • Co-op and Game Master Mode: The full campaign runs in up to four-player online co-op, where players can split up, argue in the same dialogue and fight each other, and the Definitive Edition ships with the Game Master Mode toolkit for building and running custom tabletop-style campaigns.
