Angeline Era

Angeline Era is a 3D action adventure RPG from Analgesic Productions, the studio of Melos Han-Tani and Marina Kittaka, released for PC on December 8, 2025 and for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on September 2, 2026. Players control Tets Kinoshta, a man drawn to the fantasy land of Era by an angel in a dream, and set out across an unmarked overworld to hunt Sinners and gather the magical Scales that the angel demands. Combat is built on Bumpslash, an Ys-inspired contact system where striking means driving Tets into an enemy at the right angle while weaving through bullet-hell projectile patterns instead of pressing an attack button. Every level is hidden in plain sight on the world map, so exploration is a matter of testing odd spots and reading the landscape, and discoveries can drop the player into short first-person dungeon-crawler segments. The game is presented in a low-poly pseudo-PS1 style, with a soundtrack by Han-Tani that was widely singled out in year-end coverage.

Key Systems

  • Bumpslash Combat: attacking is a contact action. Tets damages enemies by slamming into them at the correct angle rather than by pressing an attack button, which is why the studio calls the system Bumpslash and traces it back to early Ys.
  • Poise and Clarity: encounters are a read-and-answer loop built on poise and clearly telegraphed windups, with bullet-hell projectile patterns layered on top of the contact combat.
  • Unmarked Overworld: the map of Era carries no quest markers. Levels are hidden in plain sight, and searching an odd spot on the world map triggers a small discovery minigame that can open a new area.
  • Scales: the campaign objective. Tets gathers magical Scales across Era for the angel who summoned him, and the soundtrack gives the collection its own Scale Found theme.
  • Hidden First-Person Levels: some secrets drop the camera into short first-person dungeon-crawler segments with limited resources that play nothing like the main action.
  • Sub-Weapons and Upgrades: the bumpsword, rapier, daggers and gun are improved with found parts and artefacts, and alternate sub-weapons are hidden inside levels rather than sold in a shop.
  • Boss Rush and Challenge Modes: a Boss Rush strings the game's bosses together with its own scoring rules, and Melos's Trick adds a harder ruleset on top of the Normal difficulty. An evil laugh in some rooms escalates the current area to Inferno.
