Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a 2025 action-adventure stealth remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (2004), developed and published by Konami Digital Entertainment and rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. It follows FOX operative Naked Snake through the Cold War of 1964, first on the Virtuous Mission to extract a Soviet rocket scientist and then on Operation Snake Eater, a revenge infiltration of the Tselinoyarsk wilderness to destroy the Shagohod and confront his former mentor, The Boss. The remake preserves the original survival-stealth loop, including the camouflage index, a stamina and food system, and an injury cure system managed through the Survival Viewer, while modernising the controls and presentation. Released on August 28, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows, it keeps the original scenario and voice cast and is the first full remake of the classic.

Key Systems

  • Camouflage Index: Snake's uniform and face paint are rated against the surrounding terrain, and matching the environment closely makes him nearly invisible to enemy vision, so camouflage selection is the core stealth decision of every area.
  • Stamina and Food: Stamina drains through movement, combat and held actions and is refilled by eating captured wildlife and flora or by consuming stored food in the Survival Viewer. A depleted stamina gauge weakens Snake's aim, grip and recovery, so eating is a survival mechanic rather than a garnish.
  • Cure System: Injuries are tracked per body part in the Survival Viewer and treated with the correct remedy, such as a bandage, splint, suture kit, styptic or disinfectant. Untreated wounds keep bleeding and degrade health and stamina, and the wrong treatment can worsen a wound.
  • CQC (Close Quarters Combat): The unarmed and knife system lets Snake grab, hold, interrogate, throw and knock out guards, or finish them with a knife, making it the primary tool for both non-lethal play and aggressive takedowns.
  • Alert, Evasion and Caution: Guards react to sight and sound in escalating states, and camouflage changes, radio chatter, and search patterns are the tools used to break pursuit and return the area to normal.
  • Faithful Unreal Engine 5 Remake: The campaign, scenario, boss encounters and voice cast of the 2004 original are rebuilt with modernised controls, lighting and animation rather than re-imagined, with the original Survival Viewer and camouflage systems intact.
