Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is the console release of Sega's remastered Virtua Fighter 5, developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. rebuilt the 2006 arcade game with rollback netcode, revised balance and modern online play when it launched on Windows in January 2025, and this release carries the same game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with the globe-trotting World Stage single-player mode that gives it its name. The roster is the full Virtua Fighter 5 cast of twenty fighters, from series lead Akira Yuki to the silver android Dural, and every one of them practises a distinct real-world martial art inside the series' three-button punch, kick and guard system. Rounds are decided as much by reading an opponent as by executing moves: evades, throw escapes, sabaki parries, wall staggers and ring outs all end fights that are frequently over inside a minute. The series has stayed deliberately technical across three decades, and this release is aimed at players who want arcade-version Virtua Fighter with modern netcode rather than a reinvention of it.

Key Systems

  • Three-Button Combat - Every fighter is controlled with just three attack buttons, Punch, Kick and Guard, and the entire depth of the game comes out of how those three buttons combine with timing, distance and stance rather than long command lists.
  • Evade and Eight-Way Movement - Fighters step, dash and sidestep in eight directions, and a correctly timed evade against a linear attack creates the counter-hit windows that high-level Virtua Fighter play is built on.
  • Throws and Throw Escapes - Throws beat guarding and cannot be blocked, so every throw can be reversed by a throw escape input, which turns close range into a simultaneous guessing game between both players.
  • Sabaki Parries - Certain characters can absorb a specific kind of incoming attack with a timing-specific sabaki, converting a read into guaranteed damage instead of a block.
  • Wall Stagger and Ring Outs - Stages have edges and walls. Slamming an opponent into a wall leaves them staggered and open to a follow-up, while knocking them out of the ring ends the round instantly regardless of remaining health.
  • Down Attacks and Ground Game - Knocking a fighter down does not end the exchange. Timing a strike as the opponent rises, or attacking them while they are still on the floor, is a real part of every matchup.
  • Launchers and Air Combos - Heavy launchers lift an opponent into the air, and the hits that land before they touch the ground are where the game's execution ceiling lives.
  • Rollback Netcode - The R.E.V.O. version's headline technical feature is rollback netcode, which keeps online matches responsive enough for the frame-sensitive counter and evade timing the series depends on.
  • Outfit and Item Customisation - Each fighter can be dressed in unlockable and purchasable items, so the same match can look like an arcade bout or a deliberately ridiculous one.
