The Sinking City 2

The Sinking City 2 is a third-person Lovecraftian survival horror game developed and published by Frogwares, released on August 18, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is a standalone sequel to the studio's 2019 open-world detective game, moving the setting from Oakmont to a supernaturally flooded Arkham, Massachusetts in the late 1920s and trading the original's investigation sandbox for a tighter, combat-and-resource-driven horror structure. Players control Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer who enters the drowned city to save Faye after a disastrous expedition returns to him only in fragments. Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, the game pairs scarce-ammunition gunplay and melee improvisation with evidence gathering, deduction puzzles, weapon parts scavenged from E.R.C. crates and safes, and boat travel between the flooded districts of Arkham.

Key Systems

  • Survival Horror Structure — The sequel abandons the open-world detective sandbox of the 2019 game for a tighter, linear-leaning third-person survival horror campaign built on scarce ammunition, limited healing and deliberate combat encounters.
  • Flooded Arkham — The campaign takes place in a late-1920s Arkham, Massachusetts that has been struck by a supernatural flood, with submerged streets, half-drowned districts and boat travel used to move between areas of the city.
  • Investigation and Deduction — Calvin is still an investigator: evidence collection, documents and deduction puzzles gate story progress and optional lore, echoing the case-building loop of the first game inside a horror framework.
  • Weapon Parts and Accessories — Firearms are customised with weapon accessories hidden inside E.R.C. crates, safes and optional areas, with each part applying conditional combat modifiers across handgun, revolver, shotgun, rifle, SMG and grenade launcher playstyles.
  • Tales of Arkham and Collectibles — Radio broadcasts, evidence, Dream Essence and other collectibles are scattered across the city, building out the city's history and the cult activity behind the flood.
  • Difficulty Tuning — Separate combat and puzzle difficulty options let players keep the investigation legible while raising the pressure of encounters, a pattern borrowed from modern survival horror releases.
