Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a 2025 Metroidvania developed and published by the Australian studio Team Cherry, and the long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight. Players control Hornet, the weaver-princess, who is captured and spirited away to Pharloom, the ancestral kingdom of her kind, and must escape captivity and ascend to the Citadel while unravelling the designs of the goddess Grand Mother Silk. Combat is faster and more aggressive than the original, built around Hornet's Needle, the Silk gauge that powers her Bind heal, and a replaceable set of Tools and Crests that reshape her moveset. The game expands on its predecessor with over 40 bosses, a Wishes quest system, and a sprawling interconnected map spanning three acts and multiple endings.

Key Systems

  • Needle & Silk Combat — Hornet fights with her Needle and a regenerating Silk gauge; Silk is spent on the Bind heal and charged Silk Skills, replacing the original's Soul and spell system.
  • Crests — Seven equippable Crests (Hunter, Reaper, Wanderer, Beast, Architect, Witch, Shaman) each redefine Hornet's attack moveset and how many Tools she can equip.
  • Tools — Over 50 collectible Tools in three colours (Red offensive, Blue defensive/passive, Yellow utility) slot into the active Crest to grant attacks, buffs, and movement perks.
  • Silk Skills & Ancestral Arts — Spendable abilities such as Silkspear, Thread Storm, Cross Stitch, Sharpdart, Rune Rage, and Pale Nail, plus traversal arts like Swift Step, Drifter's Cloak, and Cling Grip.
  • Wishes & Bellhart Hubs — Towns such as Bone Bottom and Bellhart host Wishwalls where NPCs post optional quests (Wishes) that reward Rosaries, tools, and lore.
  • Rosaries & Craftmetal Economy — Rosaries serve as the main currency, while Craftmetal, Shell Shards, and Pale Ore upgrade Hornet's Needle and Tools at smiths.
  • Three Acts & Multiple Endings — The kingdom unfolds across three acts, from the mossy lowlands up to the Citadel, culminating in several endings depending on how Hornet handles Grand Mother Silk.
