GreedFall: The Dying World

GreedFall: The Dying World is a 2026 narrative-driven action role-playing game developed by Spiders and published by Nacon, and a prequel set three years before the events of GreedFall (2019). Players take the role of Vriden Gerr, a native of the island of Teer Fradee who is ripped away from their homeland and taken to the war-torn, plague-ravaged Old Continent of Gacane, where they must forge alliances, navigate the rival nations of the continent, and fight to win back their freedom. Combat is real-time with a tactical pause that lets the player freeze the action and issue orders to the whole party, and character building runs through six attributes and a web of martial, magical and technical skill trees whose weapon families are learned from companions. The Constanzia, a ship crewed by the Nauts, becomes the party's mobile headquarters as they travel the continent. The game launched in PC Early Access on September 24, 2024 and reached its 1.0 release on March 12, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Key Systems

  • Real-Time Combat with Tactical Pause: fights play out in real time, and the player can freeze the action at any moment to queue abilities, reposition the party and issue programmed orders before letting the scene resume.
  • Full Party Control: the player creates Vriden Gerr and is joined by a roster of companions, each with their own weapon specialisation, personal questline, relationship track and the possibility of permanently dying over the course of the story.
  • Six Attributes and Interlocking Skill Trees: Strength, Agility, Perception, Will, Endurance and Focus drive the build, while martial, magical and technical trees branch into weapon families that the character has to learn before equipping them.
  • Weapon Families Learned from Companions: Double Blades and daggers can be taught by Sybille, other families such as Bows, Rifles, Thélème Rings, Fencing Weapons and Teer Fradeean Bracelets unlock through the respective trees, and Coatings are applied to blades for extra damage types.
  • Twelve Starting Profiles: character creation sets a starting profile that determines the initial attribute spread and the first skill trees, funnelling builds toward melee, ranged, magic, support or control roles without locking the character in.
  • Faction Politics and Consequences: the nations of the Old Continent, the Nauts, the Coin Guard and the native clans all judge the player by their choices, and dialogue, quest outcomes and endings hinge on reputation and alliances.
  • The Constanzia as a Mobile Base: the Nauts grant the party the ship Constanzia, which acts as their travelling headquarters between the regions of Gacane and where companions gather between missions.
