Elden Ring: Nightreign

Elden Ring: Nightreign is a standalone cooperative action roguelike developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, set in the shared Lands Between universe of Elden Ring. Players band together as up to three Nightfarers to survive repeated 40-minute runs across Limveld, a fractured realm stitched together from fragments of the Lands Between, fighting the forces of the Nightlord that gather as the sun is consumed. Each run unfolds over three day/night cycles, with bosses, terrain, and the closing perimeter changing between sessions as players level up, loot weapons and spells, and build toward the third night's cataclysmic finale. Featuring the signature deliberate Soulslike combat of the base game, revamped weapon transform systems, mounts, deadlier bosses, and a layered Relic meta-progression that persists between runs, the title fuses Elden Ring's combat depth with the replayability of a co-op roguelike. The first paid expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, arrived on December 4, 2025 with two new Nightfarers, two new bosses and a new Shifting Earth map, The Great Hollow.

Key Systems

  • Run-Based Roguelike Campaign - Each session is a self-contained run of roughly 40 minutes. Players drop into Limveld, gather weapons, Ashes of War, and levels over three day/night cycles, then face a boss finale at the end of the third night. Failed runs restart the campaign from the beginning with the run's persistent unlocks intact.
  • Three-Night Day/Night Cycle - A run's three nights ratchet up the challenge. The map, enemy placement, and events shift each day, and each night ends in a boss encounter, culminating in the malformed Nightlord on the third night, whose identity and fight rotate between sessions.
  • Closing Perimeter - Like a battle royale circle, the edges of Limveld steadily collapse inward as a run progresses, forcing Nightfarers into tighter engagement zones and reshaping routing decisions between the day cycles.
  • Nightfarer Classes - Players pick from eight base Nightfarers (Wylder, Guardian, Duchess, Recluse, Ironeye, Raider, Revenant and Executor), each with a unique playstyle, starting weapon and class-exclusive Character Skill, Ultimate Art and passive. The Forsaken Hollows expansion adds the Scholar and Undertaker for ten in total.
  • Relic Meta-Progression - Between runs, Nightfarers equip a persistent loadout of Relics that provide passive bonuses (extra flasks, increased damage, new starting conditions) and stack with each run's randomized drops, giving roguelike builds depth that carries across attempts.
  • Shared Elden Ring Arsenal - Nightreign reuses and remixes the weapons, incantations, sorceries, and Ashes of War of Elden Ring, letting players amass familiar builds around the core combat of attack, dodge, guard, and stance-breaking against a rotating roster of bosses, super-waif mobs, and elite encounters.
  • Torrent Mount & Traversal - The spectral steed Torrent returns for mounted traversal of Limveld's landscape and mounted combat, letting parties cross the open map and reach bosses and shrines faster between the closing-circle phases.
  • Adaptive Boss Fights - Boss encounters are built to be handled by up to three players, with telegraphed moves, added aggro pressure, and heavier stance gauges than solo Elden Ring content, rewarding coordinated aggro, healing, and stagger windows.
  • The Forsaken Hollows Expansion (2025) - The first paid DLC adds the Scholar and Undertaker Nightfarers, two new bosses (the Dreglord, true name the Traitorous Straghess, and the Balancers) and the Great Hollow, a Shifting Earth map variant with its own Points of Interest and reward pool, plus new relics and equipment.
  • Shifting Earth Variants - Some Deep of Night expeditions replace Limveld with a remixed map. The Great Hollow is the expansion's variant, swapping the standard layout for a hollowed, cavern-riddled Limveld with a new forge site, a poison swamp and the Favor of the Great Hollow reward track.
