Absolum

Absolum is a side-scrolling beat 'em up with roguelite structure released on October 9, 2025 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It was developed by Guard Crush Games, the studio behind Streets of Rage 4, together with the French animation and art studio Supamonks, and published by Dotemu, who positioned it as a marriage of Dotemu and Guard Crush's beat 'em up craft with Supamonks' animation work. Set in the fantasy world of Talamh, the campaign follows a roster of four heroes who fight their way through the regions of a branching world map, mixing hand-to-hand combat with the run-based structure of a roguelite. Each attempt shuffles routes, enemies, relics and ritual modifiers, while clashes and each character's skill attacks carry the combat, and everything earned between runs is spent in the hub of Uchawi's Hearth. Beating Azra, the Sun King opens the Chaotic Rifts and a hidden route that leads to the true final boss, the entity called Absolum.

Key Systems

  • Run-based route map - Each attempt sends the heroes through a branching world map whose routes lead to different enemies and layouts, so a run is assembled rather than replayed.
  • Four-character roster - Karl, Galandra, Cider and Brome each fight with their own weapon set and kit; Karl and Galandra are available from the start while Cider and Brome have to be unlocked.
  • Clashes and skill attacks - Combat is built on timing: clashes turn an incoming attack back on the enemy, and each hero's skill attacks feed the juggling combo game.
  • Relics and Inspirations - Relics shape a run's build, while character-specific Inspirations change how a hero handles throwables and borrowed weapons.
  • Rituals - Rituals are modifiers handed out for clearing non-boss scenes and for milestones such as defeating Azra, the Sun King for the first time, and they change how later runs play.
  • Chaotic Rifts - Beating the Sun King for the first time opens the Chaotic Rifts, the harder post-campaign layer that sits between the standard ending and the true one.
  • Uchawi's Hearth hub - The hub is where the roster reconvenes between runs, home to NPCs and travelling merchants drawn from regions such as Jaroba, Yeldrim, Asterios and Grandery.
  • Hidden true route - After enough major bosses have been beaten, a room beside Uchawi opens onto a graveyard of skeletons that leads to Absolum's secret final encounter.
