Slay the Spire 2

Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deck-building game developed and published by Mega Crit, the studio behind the genre-defining 2019 original. Players guide one of five playable characters up an ever-shifting, branching spire, crafting a unique deck from hundreds of cards and relics across each run. Combat is turn-based and card-driven: energy, hand size, draw, discard, exhaust, and retain all shape strategy as runs get harder. Now in Early Access on PC after its March 5, 2026 launch, the sequel builds on the original's rock-solid foundation with fresh characters, alternate Act 1 routes, and deepened systemic interactions. Built in Godot after Mega Crit migrated away from Unity, it returns retooled versions of The Ironclad, The Silent, and The Defect alongside two new heroes, The Regent and The Necrobinder.

Key Systems

  • Deck-Building Combat — Each run rebuilds a 3-to-5 card hand economy where Energy, card draw, discard, and hand limits decide every turn; players draft a unique deck over ~50 to 70 floors rather than leveling a fixed character.
  • Five Playable Characters — The Ironclad, The Silent, and The Defect return with retuned card pools, while The Regent and The Necrobinder debut as brand-new heroes, each with unique starting decks, starting relics, and bespoke mechanics.
  • Acts & Alternate Routes — Three Acts structure every run: Act 1 randomly rolls one of two biomes (Overgrowth or Underdocks), followed by Act 2's The Hive and Act 3's Glory, each ending in a distinct Boss gauntlet.
  • Map Node Structure — Linear but branching maps route players through Monster, Elite, Merchant, Event, Treasure, Rest, and Mystery nodes, rewarding careful pathing with health management in mind.
  • Relics, Potions & Neow's Blessing — Permanent relic powers, one-shot potions, and Neow's opening boons grant build-defining synergies and multi-run metaprogression on top of each run's deck.
  • Difficulty & Ascension — Permadeath runs scale through Ascension levels that add handicaps, paired with unlockable cards and relics earned across failures, the roguelike loop that defined the series.
