Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a 2025 side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu in collaboration with Marvel Games. When Annihilus, the Living Death That Walks, unleashes the Annihilation Wave on Earth, a coalition of Marvel heroes brawls through New York, Genosha, the Savage Land, Wakanda, Asgard and the Blue Area of the Moon to push the invasion back into space. Its hook is a tag-team structure: every run pairs two heroes who can be swapped on the fly, so combos, crowd control and boss damage come from chaining two movesets instead of one. Stages are built around hidden Cosmic Cubes and three optional challenges each, which feed the Cosmic Matrix unlock board that adds new heroes and extras to the roster. It launched December 1, 2025 on PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and 5 and Xbox Series X/S at $29.99, with post-launch character packs such as Cyclops and The Thing.

Key Systems

  • Two-Hero Tag Team: Every run pairs two heroes, and swapping mid-combo is the core of the combat loop, letting players chain a rushdown moveset into a zoning or grappler kit and back again.
  • Fifteen-Hero Roster: Beta Ray Bill, Black Panther, Captain America, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Nova, Phoenix, Phyla-Vell, Rocket Raccoon, She-Hulk, Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Storm, Venom and Wolverine each bring their own moveset, specials and combo routes.
  • Cosmic Cube Challenges: Each campaign stage hides one Cosmic Cube and offers three optional challenges, so a full collection run means replaying stages with different teams and conditions.
  • Cosmic Matrix Unlocks: Cosmic Cubes are spent on the Cosmic Matrix board, which doles out extra playable heroes and collectibles instead of a straight linear unlock list.
  • Annihilation Wave Bosses: Stage bosses escalate from street-level villains like Beetle and Taskmaster to Sauron, Hela, Knull, Thanos and finally Annihilus himself.
  • Co-op Brawling: The campaign supports drop-in co-op online and locally, so a squad can spread the tag-team pairs across a stage and cover both ends of a scrolling arena.
  • Pixel-Art Presentation: Tribute Games builds the game in full-color pixel art styled after Marvel's cosmic-era comics, with comic-panel cutscenes between stages.
