Mafia: The Old Country
Mafia: The Old Country is a 2025 action-adventure game developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, and the fourth main entry in the Mafia series after a detour into 1960s New Bordeaux. It steps back to 1900s Sicily to tell an origin story: Enzo Favara, sold off as a child to the Spadaro family's sulphur labour, survives an abusive indenture and works his way into the Torrisi crime family, the local protectorate that stands between the villages and the men who own them. The campaign is a linear, chapter-driven story of fifteen parts blending knife-led stealth, cover shooting, fistfights, horseback travel and the Palio, with optional collectibles and side content layered over the main route. Fighting is close and dirty by design: Enzo carries knives with limited durability, scavenges guns from the men he kills, and is meant to feel like a farmhand learning the trade rather than a superhuman. Hangar 13 built it in Unreal Engine 5, and the Sicilian setting, the Sicilian-language voice work and the slower, more personal scale mark it out from the rest of the series.
Key Systems
- Fifteen-chapter linear campaign: a prologue (Tremori) and fourteen story chapters, from Famiglia and Palio through Pizzu, Il Barone and Vendetta D'Onore, each a self-contained slice of Enzo's rise.
- Durable knives and three knife types: Enzo fights with knives that wear out, and the three knife families (Stiletto, Rasolu and the wider range sold by Pasquale) trade durability against speed and stealth-kill behaviour.
- Scavenged gunplay: guns are taken from dead men or bought rather than carried permanently, spanning pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns including the sawn-off Lupara, with cover shooting and limited ammo pushing Enzo back to the knife.
- Stealth and takedowns: enemy camps and compounds can be cleared quietly with knife stealth takedowns before the shooting starts, and many chapters give a silent route and a loud one.
- Sicilian setting and factions: the Torrisi family, the Spadaro family and the Corpo Reale (the royal police) divide the island, and Enzo's loyalty to the Torrisi is what puts him against the men who owned him.
- Horseback travel and the countryside: Enzo rides between San Celeste, Villa Torrisi and the outlying villages, with the open countryside carrying side activities, shops and collectibles between story beats.
- Collectibles and Free Ride: 143 collectibles across Newspapers, Mystery Foxes and Saints' Cards, plus a Free Ride mode unlocked once the Palio chapter is cleared that drops Enzo back into the open map.
