Little Nightmares III

Little Nightmares III is a puzzle-platform horror adventure developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the first mainline entry in the series made outside original developer Tarsier Studios. It follows two new child protagonists, Low and Alone, as they travel through the nightmare dimension known as The Nowhere searching for a way out and for the source of the signal that draws them onward. The campaign is built around two-player co-operation: the whole story can be played online with a friend through a Friend's Pass or solo with an AI companion, and every chapter is designed so that one child solves with Low's bow what the other solves with Alone's wrench. Four chapters, The Necropolis, The Candy Factory, The Carnevale and The Institute, each end in a chase or a boss encounter with one of the oversized Residents who prey on children. The game released worldwide on 10 October 2025 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows, and a two-chapter expansion, Secrets of the Spiral, followed in 2026.

Key Systems

  • Two-Player Co-op - The entire campaign is designed for two children at once; players can go online with a friend or take the story solo with an AI companion that handles its half of every puzzle.
  • Friend's Pass - An online Friend's Pass lets a second player join the full co-op campaign without owning the game, the invite model popularised by the co-op-only titles it is modelled on.
  • Dual-Character Puzzles - Low's bow and Alone's wrench solve different halves of the same obstacle: arrows trip distant switches and cut ropes, while the wrench turns valves, pries open panels and smashes brittle props.
  • Real-Time Stealth - Neither child is a fighter, so survival means crouching, hiding under furniture, using cover and knowing when to sprint, with the same item that solves a puzzle also serving as a distraction.
  • Four Chapter Campaign - The story runs through the Necropolis, the Candy Factory, the Carnevale and the Institute, each ending in a set-piece chase or a boss fight against one of the Residents.
  • Residents - The giant humanoid monsters of The Nowhere return as the game's predators, oversized adults that kidnap children and turn ordinary rooms and toys into threats.
  • Collectibles - Every chapter hides Dolls, Crows, Nomes, Lady Statues and Ghosts, tallied separately in chapter select so anything missed can be hunted down again.
  • The Nowhere - The series' nightmare world remains the connective tissue between locations, with the children crossing into oversized, half-remembered places rather than travelling through a continuous map.
  • Unreal Engine 5 Presentation - The hand-made, stop-motion-inspired art style is rebuilt on Unreal Engine 5, keeping the tactile toys-and-dollhouse look while adding modern lighting, depth and scale.
