Grand Theft Auto VI

Grand Theft Auto VI is the eighth mainline entry in Rockstar Games' open-world crime saga, developed by Rockstar North and set in Leonida, a fictional state modelled on modern-day Florida. The story follows the criminal duo of Lucia Caminos, the series' first female lead, and Jason Duval, a former military veteran working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys, as they chase the American dream on the wrong side of the law across neon-soaked Vice City and the wetlands, swamps and keys beyond it. Gameplay expands the series' sandbox with a modernized movement suite, a reworked six-star wanted system with witness-based reporting, and a Crime Profile layer that shapes how police and the world react to the player. Built on the proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), it is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC release to follow.

Key Systems

  • Dual Protagonists: Jason and Lucia share the campaign as a Bonnie and Clyde out-for-crime pair, with character switching letting players alternate between their unique skills, vehicles and vantage points across the state.
  • Crime Profile: A reputation system that records the player's actions, crimes and play style, shaping police response, witness behaviour and how the surrounding world reacts to return visits.
  • Six-Star Wanted System: The classic six-star wanted mechanic returns, now driven by witness reporting, facial and clothing recognition, and police that learn to track the player's vehicle and habits over time.
  • Reworked Movement: Running, jumping and climbing have been overhauled for smoother traversal and verticality across Leonida's beaches, rooftops and wetlands.
  • Open-World Sandbox: A living state of Leonida with dynamic traffic, pedestrians, businesses, side activities, and vehicles across Vice City, the Keys, and rural interior regions.
  • Vehicle and Gunplay: Expanded driving, vehicle theft and combat, including two distinct approaches to stealing cars in traffic and a generational leap in the gunplay and shooting feel.
  • RAGE Engine Presentation: Built on the proprietary Rockstar Engine with a modern, highly detailed open world and cinematic presentation.
