Kingmakers

Kingmakers is an action-strategy sandbox game developed by Redemption Road Games and published by tinyBuild. Set in 1403, it casts the player as a time traveler sent back into a war-torn medieval Britain to aid Owain Glyndwr's Welsh rebellion, wielding a modern arsenal in a period where swords and shields meet automatic rifles. The core innovation is a seamless hybrid of third-person shooter and real-time strategy: on foot the player fights with firearms and vehicles in modern third-person combat, while a strategy layer lets them build settlements, manage an economy, recruit and arm armies, and march on enemy castles. Both modes interlock in a campaign that can rewrite the course of history, with a branching single-player story and online co-op for up to four players. It entered Early Access on October 8, 2025 for Windows, and its blend of medieval siegecraft with modern firepower drew widespread attention for its large-scale, destructible battles and historically inspired backdrop.

Key Systems

  • FPS-RTS Hybrid: Seamlessly swap between third-person modern-weapon combat on foot and a real-time strategy layer where you build settlements, manage an economy, and command armies that besiege enemy fortifications.
  • Time Travel Premise: A modern soldier is sent back to 1403 Britain to aid Owain Glyndwr's Welsh rebellion against English barons, fighting medieval forces with a contemporary arsenal and rewriting history.
  • Medieval vs Modern Sandbox: Castles, knights, archers, and spearmen clash against guns, explosive ordnance, and armored vehicles, letting players decide how brutally to tip the balance of power.
  • Base Building and Economy: Construct farms, lumber mills, houses, and barracks to sustain a settlement, recruit units, and fund the campaign against the crown.
  • Dynamic Siege Battles: Large-scale, destructible field battles where modern firepower and defensive fortifications meet medieval armies and castle sieges.
  • Single-Player Campaign and Co-op: A branching single-player story based on the Welsh uprising, with online co-op for up to four players to wage the war together.
