Digimon Story: Time Stranger

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a monster-taming role-playing game developed by Media.Vision and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is the seventh entry in the Digimon Story subseries, arriving eight years after Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory. Players take on the role of Dan or Kanan Yuki, agents of the covert organization ADAMAS who investigate digital anomalies in Tokyo, only to be dragged through a space-time rift into the Digital World of Iliad. There, the forces of the Titans have overrun much of the land, and the agent slowly gains the power to travel back in time to prevent the deaths of their Digimon allies. The game blends classic turn-based monster battles, Digivolution and Jogress evolution, a farming-style DigiFarm, a revamped personality system, and an expansive roster of over 470 collectible Digimon wrapped in a branching time-loop narrative that asks the agent to undo the catastrophic Shinjuku Inferno.

Key Systems

  • Digivolution - Digimon in the party evolve from In-Training through Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, and Mega stages based on level, stats, personality, and unlocked Agent Ranks, with evolution stages gated behind story and sidequest progression.
  • Jogress Evolution - Compatible pairs of Digimon can fuse into DNA-evolved forms, unleashing powerful signature attacks that cost SP from both participants each turn, with material Digimon not consumed when devolving.
  • Agent Skill System - Anomaly Points earned through story and side missions are invested in Agent Skills that let the agent upgrade Digimon and raise evolution ability, unlocking Champion at Rank 3, Ultimate at Rank 7, Mega at Rank 8, Super Ultimate at Rank 8, and specific Digimon at Ranks 9 and 10.
  • Cross Arts - Powerful attacks innately usable by the agent, powered by a Combat Points (CP) meter that fills as actions are performed in battle, unleashing strong attacks or buff effects when full.
  • Personality System - Each Digimon has a personality that affects which evolutions it can reach, offers four passive Personality Skills (unique passives with 20% and 10% appearance odds), and can be changed by talking to the Digimon or through the DigiFarm.
  • DigiFarm - A farming-style sanctuary holding up to 30 Digimon where players raise bonds, train, and tend to their monsters, able to skip training by paying Yen and feeding food that increases Bonds.
  • DigiRide - Certain rideable Digimon can be mounted by the agent, automatically attacking enemies they run into, with speeds and attack patterns varying per species.
  • Load Enhancement and Return to Data - Sacrifice fodder Digimon into another to grant experience and 10% bonus stats, or convert Digimon directly into Yen in battle management.
  • Outer Dungeons - Post-game challenge dungeons offering minigames and hard boss fights, with twenty total across four types.
