Control Resonant
Control Resonant is a 2026 action-adventure RPG developed and published by Remedy Entertainment. A sequel to the 2019 game Control, it is set seven years later and follows Dylan Faden, the paranaturally abled parautilitarian brother of Jesse Faden, as he battles an invasion of the red-hued Hiss that has warped Manhattan into a paranatural nightmare. Drawing on Remedy's established Federal Bureau of Control lore, Dylan wields the Aberrant, a crude shape-shifting melee weapon with many forms, alongside an array of paranatural powers and gravity-shifting traversal abilities. Combat is Remedy's first melee-focused, blueshift-heavy system, while a zone-based progression model rewards reclaiming the warped city rather than grinding character experience, returning to the shifting brutalist architecture of the Oldest House and the wider Remedy Connected Universe.
Key Systems
- Aberrant Melee Combat: Dylan wields the Aberrant, a crude shape-shifting melee rod comparable to Jesse's Service Weapon, which transforms into a multitude of forms for primary, secondary, and combo-finisher attacks. Remedy's first melee-centric loop mixes mix-and-match weapon forms with paranatural powers, triggering heavier attacks and finishers from combined posture.
- Zone-Based Progression: The game reworks the action-RPG rulebook with the philosophy that players do not earn XP for their character, but that zones themselves gain power. Reclaiming and cleansing the warped districts of Manhattan advances the world and unlocks new systems, abilities, and content tied to each zone rather than a traditional experience curve.
- Fault Traversal: A set of gravity-shifting movement powers lets Dylan navigate the vertical, warped city, including Double-Jump, Elevate, Rush, Shift, and Reach. These traversal abilities unlock in sequence and open paths, shortcuts, and hidden areas across Manhattan's rooftops and citadels.
- The Hiss and Paranatural Threats: The red-hued Hiss, the paranatural parasite that corrupted Dylan in the original Control, is the driving enemy force, alongside other paranatural entities, Objects of Power, and full-scale Resonant boss fights. Defeating Resonant bosses unlocks new abilities and the sixth ability slot.
- Paranatural Powers and Talents: Beyond the Aberrant, Dylan channels a range of psychic and kinetic abilities (including the returning Launch telekinesis) in dedicated ability slots, gated behind an upgrade and talent system that reshapes how each power behaves in combat.
- The Oldest House Returns: The shifting brutalist headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control reprises as a location of power, where FBC factions and agents contest control of Manhattan against the paranatural invasion.
