Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 is a 2025 first-person shooter developed by Battlefield Studios (DICE, Criterion, Motive, and Ripple Effect) and published by Electronic Arts. It returns the series to a grounded, near-future war set in 2027, in which NATO and allied forces confront Pax Armata, a private military corporation that has seized strategic territory and turned the conflict into a private war for hire. The game rebuilds the classic class system around four roles, Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon, each with a signature gadget, class training perks, and role abilities that anchor squad play across large-scale combined-arms maps. Frostbite-powered destruction, grounded gunplay, and the community-driven Battlefield Portal sandbox define the core multiplayer experience. Released on October 10, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, it was followed by Battlefield REDSEC, a free-to-play battle royale mode, on October 28, 2025.
Key Systems
- Class System: Four playable classes, Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon, each built around a signature gadget, class-specific training perks, and role abilities such as healing, anti-vehicle firepower, resupply, and reconnaissance, so squad composition matters as much as individual aim.
- Grounded Combined-Arms Combat: Infantry, ground vehicles, and aircraft fight together on large-scale maps, with gameplay tuned toward the classic Battlefield 3 and 4 feel, including recoil, spread, and movement retuning and a return to distinct class roles rather than the open specialist system.
- Dynamic Destruction: Frostbite-driven environmental destruction lets players breach walls, collapse structures, and reshape cover, letting squads carve new routes through buildings and chokepoints.
- Battlefield Portal: A community sandbox that lets players build and share custom modes, mixing weapons, vehicles, classes, and rules from across the Battlefield series with adjustable modifiers.
- Battlefield REDSEC: A free-to-play battle royale mode launched on October 28, 2025, dropping roughly a hundred players onto a large-scale map with classes, vehicles, gadgets, and Battlefield destruction, alongside an extraction-style mode.
- Squad and Gadget Economy: Squad-based spawns, revives, resupply, and gadget play remain central, with classes reworked so each role owns the tools that keep a squad alive, moving, and resupplied under fire.
- 2027 Setting: The campaign and multiplayer fiction depict a near-future 2027 conflict in which the private military corporation Pax Armata wages its own war, drawing NATO and allied forces into a broader confrontation.
