Yakuza Kiwami 2

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is an action-adventure beat 'em up developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. A full remake of the 2006 PlayStation 2 title Yakuza 2, it was built in the Dragon Engine and follows Kazuma Kiryu, the retired Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, after the Fifth Chairman Yukio Terada is assassinated at a peace ceremony with the Omi Alliance. Kiryu travels between Kamurocho in Tokyo and Sotenbori in Osaka to stop a full-scale gang war, uncovering the revenge plot of the Korean Jingweon Mafia and a conspiracy reaching into both clans. Kiwami 2 adds the playable Majima Saga chapters starring Goro Majima, the Shinseicho district, the Cabaret Club Grand Prix and the Clan Creator minigame, and it was re-released without the original Japan-only content cuts across modern platforms in November and December 2025.

Key Systems

  • Dragon Engine Brawler Combat — Fights run on a light and heavy attack combo system with grabs, throws, wall slams, guard breaks and environmental objects, all rendered in the seamless Dragon Engine that removes loading screens when entering buildings and shops.
  • Extreme Heat Mode and Heat Actions — Kiryu builds Heat through clean hits and enters Extreme Heat Mode for boosted damage and special attacks, while contextual Heat Actions trigger on weapon, wall, ground, ledge and counter prompts across every fight.
  • Two-City Open World — The game drops the player into Kamurocho in Tokyo and Sotenbori in Osaka, plus the Shinseicho district added for the Kiwami remake, each packed with shops, restaurants, arcades, sub-stories and hostess clubs.
  • Majima Saga — Three unlockable playable chapters starring Goro Majima tell what the Mad Dog of Shimano was doing between the first and second games, using a simplified combat kit and his own story of protecting Makoto Makimura.
  • Cabaret Club Grand Prix — A full club management minigame where the player trains hostesses, schedules shifts and battles rival clubs in a nationwide tournament, returning from Yakuza 0 with a new storyline.
  • Clan Creator (Majima Construction) — A real-time squad battle mode in which Majima's construction company fields crews of recruited fighters against the Jingweon and other gangs on a rooftop battlefield.
  • Weapon and Item Progression — Kiryu and Majima fight with fists by default but can buy, carry and switch between blade, blunt, improvised and firearm weapons, each with its own Heat Actions, alongside the series' inventory, gear and food systems.
  • Sub-stories and Minigames — Dozens of sub-stories sit alongside karaoke, batting cages, arcade cabinets, gambling halls, mahjong and hostess clubs, all tracked on the completion list.
