Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a dark-fantasy action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo, originally released in March 2023 for Windows, PlayStation and Xbox consoles and compiled as a Complete Edition in 2024. The story opens in 184 AD during the Yellow Turban Rebellion, following a nameless militia volunteer who fights through the collapse of the Eastern Han dynasty as the key figures of the Three Kingdoms era rise around them. Its combat is built on a deflect-centric parry duel layered over a Spirit gauge, with weapon-specific Martial Arts, Five Phases wizardry spells, Divine Beast summons, and a Morale Rank progression system that rises as you defeat enemies and plant battle flags and drops when you fall. This Complete Edition packages the base game with all three of its post-launch chapters, Battle of Zhongyuan, Conqueror of Jiangdong and Upheaval in Jingxiang, and reached Nintendo Switch 2 on September 3, 2026. The sections below cover the game's weapon families, cast, campaign regions, combat abilities and core systems.

Key Systems

  • Deflect-Driven Combat - Every exchange is built around the Deflect, a precisely timed parry that turns an incoming attack into spirit gain for the player and spirit damage for the enemy. Landing deflects in sequence, rather than trading hits, is the core skill the whole combat loop is built on.
  • Spirit Gauge - Attacks push the gauge toward positive spirit while guarding, dodging into hits and taking damage push it negative. A heavily positive gauge unlocks the Spirit Attack that staggers enemies, while a negative gauge leaves the player vulnerable to a Fatal Strike.
  • Morale Rank - Each mission has its own morale scale. Defeating enemies and planting battle flags raises the player's Morale Rank, which scales damage and survivability, while dying knocks morale back down and enemy morale scales with the rank the player has reached.
  • Fortitude Rank and Battle Flags - Battle flags scattered through each battlefield can be planted to lock in a minimum Morale Rank, so progress survives repeated deaths and the level can be re-approached with a stronger starting floor.
  • Five Phases Wizardry - Level-up points are invested in the Five Phases attributes, and each phase unlocks its own school of wizardry spells. Spells are slotted and cast alongside weapon combat, giving the player ranged, elemental and support options beyond melee.
  • Martial Arts and Weapon Families - Each of the game's weapon families carries its own move set and its own Martial Arts techniques, so switching from a sabre to a halberd changes both the combo tree and the available special attacks.
  • Divine Beasts - Divine Beast summons, charged through combat, unleash powerful burst effects and buffs that can turn a losing fight, and are also usable as part of the co-op experience.
  • Co-op and Complete Edition Content - Up to three players can fight together online with guest companions, and the Complete Edition bundles the base campaign with the three post-launch chapters that extend the story from the Central Plains to Jiangdong and Jing Province.
