Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is a 2025 role-playing game developed by Nihon Falcom: a full remake of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (2004), the first chapter of the long-running Trails saga. It follows Estelle Bright and her adopted brother Joshua, two rookie Bracers-in-training, as their first assignments across the Kingdom of Liberl unravel into a plot involving a shadowy society and a coup against the crown. The game keeps the original's signature turn-based tactical combat, the CP-driven Craft and S-Craft system, and the Orbment and Quartz magic system, while rebuilding the world, presentation, and battle flow for modern platforms. Set on the Zemuria continent, it is the recommended starting point for newcomers to the Trails series.

Key Systems

  • Tactical Turn-Based Combat - Battles run on the AT (Action Time) turn-order bar, which queues character and enemy turns by speed; exploiting turn bonuses (critical, Craft, and item bonuses that appear on the timeline) and positioning decide each fight.
  • Crafts and S-Crafts - Every party member has a personal Craft list paid for with CP (Craft Points). Physical Crafts deal damage or apply effects, while the ultimate S-Craft spends 100 or more CP for a signature attack that can also be fired instantly as an S-Break.
  • Orbment and Quartz - Characters equip an Orbment whose slots are filled with Quartz. Each Quartz carries an elemental value, and slotting the right combination unlocks Orbal Arts and passive bonuses, making Orbment builds the core of character customization.
  • Orbal Arts (Magic) - Seven elements (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Time, Space, and Mirage) provide offensive, healing, and support spells cast with EP; Arts are learned through Quartz combinations rather than through leveling.
  • Bracer Guild Quests - Playing as junior Bracers, Estelle and Joshua take jobs from the Bracer Guild, balancing main-story chapters against optional requests and earning Bracer Points that advance their rank.
  • Character Weapon Types - Each playable character fights with a unique weapon class (bo staff, twin swords, whip, orbal gun, rapier, greatsword, orbal cannon, and tonfa), so party composition shapes the tools available in battle.
  • Rotating Party - The playable roster grows across the journey through Liberl, letting players field a mix of physical attackers, casters, and support characters from a cast of eight.
