The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a 2026 HD-2D action role-playing game developed by Square Enix's Team Asano with Claytechworks and published by Square Enix. It stars Elliot Lawei, a young adventurer from the Kingdom of Huther who is summoned by King Hichard and his daughter Heuria to explore a newly uncovered ruin, and ends up travelling between four Ages of the same land after a fairy named Faie awakens the power of the Door of Time. Across the present Age of Safekeeping, the fallen Age of Magic, the rebuilding Age of Reconstruction and the distant Age of Budding, Elliot explores the open regions of Philabieldia in real time, fighting beast tribes with seven weapon types that can be hot-swapped in and out of a two-slot loadout. Progression runs through Magicite, gem-like items socketed into each weapon's Magicite Box, plus Shards of Life, accessories, manuscripts and a large amount of optional exploration. It is Square Enix's first attempt at a Zelda-style open adventure in the HD-2D style that the team built with Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default.

Key Systems

  • Time Travel Across Four Ages: the same world of Philabieldia is rebuilt four times as the Age of Safekeeping, the Age of Magic, the Age of Reconstruction and the Age of Budding, and progress in one era opens routes, chests and quests in another.
  • Weapon-as-Loadout Combat: Elliot carries seven weapon types (Sword, Boomerang, Spear, Hammer, Bow, Bombs and Chain and Sickle), equips two at once and swaps instantly mid-combo, with a real-time action system built around parries and charged attacks instead of turn-based battles.
  • Weapon Tiers and Upgrades: six of the seven weapon families have three escalating versions hidden across the Ages, so exploration directly raises attack power rather than only buying gear in shops.
  • Magicite Customisation: every weapon has a Magicite Box, and Magicite gems socketed into those boxes add weapon-specific effects such as crit bonuses against stunned enemies, extra damage to afflicted enemies, elemental swings or knockback on hammer hits.
  • Magicite Crafting and Form Gems: Magicite Fragments improve rolls and form ranks, while the tul currency upgrades box size, making the Magicite bench the game's main long-term progression sink.
  • Open Exploration Collectibles: 60 Shards of Life raise maximum health, 31 manuscripts add lore, dozens of cats are rescued for rewards, and Shrines of Life, Mystic Shrines, Magic Springs and Secret Shortcuts fill out each region's map.
  • Three Endings: a Bad Ending, a Standard Ending that requires the Leytstaf sword from the Water Ruins and a True Ending that reopens every Age for hidden truths, all resolved through the fate of Heuria's curse.
  • Prologue Demo: a standalone Debut Demo released ahead of launch and carries save data bonuses into the full game.
