Double Dragon Revive

Double Dragon Revive is a 3D beat 'em up developed by Yuke's and published by Arc System Works, released in October 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows. It rebuilds the original 1987 Double Dragon story for modern hardware: Billy Lee fights through the city to rescue Marian Kelly from the Black Warriors gang, and the road to their leader runs through his own brother Jimmy. Combat keeps the arcade grammar of light and heavy strings, grabs, throws and improvised weapons, then places it in 3D arenas where crowds surround the player instead of lining up in a single lane. Bosses close out each stage, and the enemy roster is built from the Black Warriors grunts and enforcers that the series established.

Key Systems

  • Direction-aware brawling: light and heavy attack strings branch into launchers, sweeps and air juggles, and the direction held on the closing hit changes the finisher that comes out.
  • Grab and throw layer: enemies can be seized, kneed, thrown into each other or slammed into the floor, which is the main way to break a crowd that has closed in from both sides.
  • Improvised weapons: a bat, knife or whip dropped by a defeated enemy can be picked up mid-stage and used for a limited number of swings before it is knocked away or breaks.
  • Stage-ending boss duels, with Black Warriors enforcers whose attack patterns and punish windows differ sharply from the grunts that fill the rest of the stage.
  • Stages rebuilt as 3D arenas instead of flat side-scrolling lanes, so wall position, crowd spacing and camera angle matter as much as combo timing.
