Marathon

Marathon is a first-person extraction shooter developed and published by Bungie and distributed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, released March 5, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Decades after the original trilogy, it returns Bungie to the lost extrasolar colony of Tau Ceti IV, where cybernetically enhanced Runners deploy to scavenge loot, complete objectives, and extract while facing rival operators and hostile threats. Gameplay centers on a loot-driven PvPvE extraction loop, a cast of seven playable Runner operators, an eight-class, 28-gun arsenal running on Ballistic and Volt ammunition, and the colony's simmering mystery. Its narrative roots trace to the classic Marathon games and the rampantly evolving colony AI Durandal.

• PvPvE Extraction Loop: Deploy as a Runner onto Tau Ceti IV, scavenge loot and complete objectives, fight rival operators and hostile threats, and race to an extraction point to bank your haul or lose everything.
• Seven Playable Runners: Choose among the operators Assassin, Destroyer, Recon, Rook, Sentinel, Thief, and Vandal, each with a distinct combat role, loadout identity, and playstyle.
• 28-Gun Arsenal Across Eight Classes: Assault Rifles, Submachine Guns, Light Machine Guns, Shotguns, Precision Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Railguns, and Pistols run on two ammunition families - Ballistic (standard rounds) and Volt (battery-charged energy rounds).
• Contested Tau Ceti IV Maps: Extraction zones such as Perimeter, Dire Marsh, Outpost, and Cryo Archive pit Runners against each other and the planet's hostile threats with edge-of-map extraction points.
• Loot, Gear, and Retention: Extraction rewards with looted weapons, attachments, and rarities shape loadout progression, with risk and reward driving returns to orbit.
• Marathon Lineage Lore: The colony's downfall and the rampantly evolving AI of the Marathon lineage provide the setting's unfolding mystery.
