Directive 8020

Directive 8020 is an interactive drama and survival horror game developed and published by Supermassive Games, the fifth main entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology and the opening chapter of its second season. Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time, so the colony ship Cassiopeia is sent twelve light years from home to scout Tau Ceti f and the lost colony that once inhabited its surface. When the survey goes wrong the crew of five is left fighting for survival against an alien organism that copies the living beings it touches, and every crewmate becomes a suspect. Control switches between the five crew in a third-person over-the-shoulder view that replaces the series' fixed cameras, with crouching, hiding, vents and distractions taking the place of direct combat, while Turning Points and a trust system decide who obeys, who is left behind and who lives. A single playthrough runs about eight hours across eight episodes, with local Movie Night co-op for up to five players.
Key Systems
- Stealth-First Horror: the anthology's fixed camera angles are replaced by a third-person over-the-shoulder view, and the crew cannot fight the organism head-on. Crouching, hiding, crawling through vents and throwing distractions are the core verbs, and a failed stealth beat usually ends in a chase rather than a fight.
- Trust and Character Destinies: every crew member carries a defining trait (Stafford Understanding, Eisele Compassionate, Cooper Playful, Cernan Philosophical, Carter Careful), and how much the crew trusts each other decides who follows orders, who is believed and who is abandoned when a Turning Point arrives.
- Turning Points and the Story Tree: each decisive moment is a tracked node. The Story Tree records which branches were taken, and episodes can be replayed from a node to chase the other routes through the campaign.
- Explorer and Survivor Modes: Explorer telegraphs Turning Points, softens the quick-time events and keeps the crew alive through mistakes, while Survivor restores the anthology's classic pressure where a single bad decision is permanent.
- The Bridge Scanner: the ship's only reliable test for the organism sits on the bridge and can prove whether a crew member is still human, which turns every reunion on the Cassiopeia into a paranoia scene.
- Eight-Episode Structure: the campaign is split into eight roughly hour-long episodes, from Little Star to Come True, each switching control between crew members and each carrying its own kill points.
- Movie Night Co-op: up to five players pass the pad and each takes control of one crew member for their scenes, and five-player online multiplayer was announced as a free post-launch addition.
