The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is the commemorative release of Bethesda Game Studios' open-world action role-playing game, bundling the original 2011 game, its three expansion packs and a large curated set of Creation Club content into a single package. It launched on November 11, 2021 for Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, exactly ten years after the base game, and arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 9, 2025. The player creates a prisoner of the civil-war-torn province of Skyrim who is revealed to be the Dragonborn, a mortal born with the soul of a dragon, and who must master the Thu'um and stop Alduin the World-Eater. The game is defined by its four joinable faction questlines, its eighteen skill trees, freeform weapon and armour crafting, and the freedom to ignore the main story entirely for a hundred hours. Anniversary Edition adds fishing, Survival Mode, the Saints and Seducers questline and around seventy other Creation Club packs on top of Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn.

Key Systems

  • Dragon Shouts: Word Walls hidden across Skyrim teach words of the dragon language, and any three words of a shout can be combined and fired for effects such as Unrelenting Force or Fire Breath. Shouts run on a recharge timer rather than a resource, so every build can use them.
  • Skill Trees and Leveling: The eighteen skills are grouped under the Warrior, Mage and Thief constellations, and each skill improves through use while raising character level. Every level grants a perk point spent inside a skill tree, so a build is defined by the perks committed to rather than by a class picked at the start.
  • Crafting Triangle: Smithing, Enchanting and Alchemy feed one another, letting the player forge and improve gear at forges and grindstones, apply disenchanted enchantments to weapons and armour, and brew potions that amplify the loop.
  • Faction Questlines: The Companions, College of Winterhold, Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood each supply a full story with ranks to earn, and the civil war between the Stormcloaks and the Imperial Legion resolves through its own campaign of battles and hold swaps.
  • Dragons and Radiant Encounters: Dragons begin spawning across the province after the first scripted attack on Whiterun, and the radiant quest system keeps guild jobs, bounties and random road encounters generating indefinitely.
  • Followers, Marriage and Homesteads: Dozens of recruitable followers can be geared, married and moved into a home, and Hearthfire building lets the player construct and furnish three homesteads and adopt children.
  • Crime, Stealth and Speech: A bounty is tracked separately per hold, and the Sneak, Pickpocket, Lockpicking and Speech skills open stealth approaches, lock and pocket routes, and persuasion or bribery options inside quests.
  • Creation Club and Survival Mode: The Anniversary Edition bundles roughly seventy Creation Club packs including fishing, Survival Mode, Saints and Seducers, several questlines and player homes, together with the free next-generation upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Vampires and Werewolves: Dawnguard expands both conditions into perk-bearing forms, giving the Vampire Lord and Werewolf their own progression trees, and the factions that hunt them have full questlines of their own.
